Project Overview

The goal at Kereluk was simple to say and hard to pull off: fit two storeys of living space into a home that looks like one storey from the outside.

A steep roofline made it possible. Instead of raising the whole house, the roof itself does the work, pitched steep enough to tuck real, usable rooms into what would otherwise be attic space. It took some unconventional choices in how the roof was shaped, forcing the interior volume to grow where the exterior profile couldn't.

Step inside, and none of that engineering shows. The rooms carved into the roofline don't feel like an attic at all. Natural light pours into a cozy, open-concept living area that spills out into a private backyard, and the sense of being tucked under a roof disappears entirely.

As a finished home, everything appears straight forward and simple. What isn't shown is how every angle and clearance was meticulously planned and coordinated so this second story can feel like an intentional inclusion in an otherwise single story house.
